Chili Peppers On A Comal

Nancy August 24, 2026 4 min read

The smell of chili peppers on a Mexican comal (grill) is a good way to say goodbye summer. The new seasons of fall (autumn) and winter will bring foods with spices and beverages with spices such as apple cider and cloves. The change of seasons will soon be here and what better way to embrace the new season. The smell, the aura, the ambiance that comes from the smell of chili peppers is like none other.  Expect to get teary eyed, runny nose and you might want to open a window a crack or savor the smell while it lingers.  I love to smell the peppers on the Mexican Comal which brings so many good memories. My mom would tell me stories about how her mother (my grandmother) would fill the home of chili peppers on the Mexican Comal. They grilled the chili peppers till the skin on the chili peppers was burned. Then they would make hot sauce with the chili peppers.

The comal, step one. The Mexican Comal is not expensive and can be purchased at some grocery stores.  Good point is that this Mexican Comal can serve various uses.  You can use the comal to make beef, chicken or shrimp fajitas.  You can also use the comal to make tortillas on. The comal will have instructions on cleaning it before using the comal. space

The peppers, step two. Chili peppers come in a variety of hotness levels.  A variety of chili peppers can be found in the grocery stores. Some of my favorite peppers are Serrano peppers, Jalapeno peppers, Habanero and Cayenne peppers, You can get mild chili peppers or you can get hot peppers. You decide the level of the chili peppers. Put a little bit of olive oil on the Mexican Comal then start adding the peppers. Do not forget to rinse off and dry the chili peppers. Definately do not want to put wet chili peppers on a comal with hot oil. After you put the dry peppers on the comal turn them around and flip to the other side till the desired darkness is achieved.
